REMEMBERING RICO

It's been exactly a year since Lee Richardson (33) was killled in a Polish League Speedway accident in Wroclaw. A lovely guy and great rider, he is missed by all associated with speedway and remembered by many outside of the community. #RICO

MONZA MAYHEM

Beautiful and historic Monza Park was filled with the noise of screaming World Superbikes travelling at over 208 mph for round 4 of the series. In a blanket race one finish, Marco Melandri edged over the line from Tom Sykes and Eugene Laverty. But in race 2 controversy saw 3rd finisher Sykes moved to 4th after he crossed a chicane boundary on the last lap and was protested by Sylvain Guintoli's Aprilia team. The penalty was reversed on appeal and meant that the final result was Laverty from Melandri and Sykes. But the real drama was in the World Supersports race. After 3 red flag situations it was moved to later in the day, but was worth the wait. After the much fancied and more powerful Kawasaki throng lost their leader as Kenan Sofuoglu fell at Lesmo 2, it was a dog fight that eventually went to Sam Lowes on a clearly slower Yamaha. Fortune favours the brave and Lowes now leads the world! Next stop, Donington Park in 2 weeks.

5 Year MotoGP Deal

MotoGP will be exclusive in the UK to the new BT Sport channel from 2014. All practice, qualifying and races for the Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP classes are included in the deal. The presentation and commentary team line-up will be released later. Both BBC and Eurosport will continue to share broadcasting rights until the end of the 2013 season. The BT Sport trio of channels will be FREE to BT Broadband customers.

EMIL'S EMOTIONS

Looking back to the Speedway GP in Gothenburg last Saturday it's hard not to wonder at the emotions of eventual winner Emil Sayfutdinov, (23). He left his cancer suffering father in Russia with a promise that he would win the Grand Prix, (as he had round 2), but did not know his father had passed away until after achieving the win in front of reigning champ Chris Holder, 3 time champ Nicki Pedersen and Jareck Hampel. Condolences and admiration in equal measure.

Perfect Pedrosa...

..but magnificent Marquez! Dani took his first win of the year while Marc Marquez hunted down defending champ Jorge Lorenzo to literally beat him up on the last corner (named after Lorenzo) on the last lap. Spaniards rule MotoGP, it's a civil war! Valentino Rossi was 4th with battered Briton Cal Crutchlow 5th.

NEW MOTOGP TV DEAL

BT will be the new home of MotoGP from the start of the 2014 season according to an article in BROADCAST, a well informed industry journal. The new BT Sport channel launches in July this year.

MotoGP of Wales ?

The Circuit of Wales project in South Wales is picking up momentum. The prospect of a MotoGP homologated track in beautiful countryside accessed by fantastic roads is mouthwatering! I visited the site yesterday and it's not hard to see what a fantastic opportunity this project is for Wales and motorsport fans!

Marc's MotoGP Mark

Honda's Marc Marquez became the youngest ever premier class MotoGP winner today at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas (to go with the youngest ever pole sitter tag he earned yesterday)! He beat team mate Dani Pedrosa and Yamaha's reigning champ Jorge Lorenzo in the first ever MotoGP at COTA. Britain's Cal Crutchlow overcame his satellite team Yamaha limitations to finish 4th.
